Just like some women claim to have “fat” and “thin” days, are there “ugly” and “pretty” days? Sometimes, I walk to the store and the street is silent. Other days, I can’t turn around without a whistle.
Generally, my catcall tolerance level is like this:
- “You are so beautiful” = I swing between “it’s annoying” and “it’s a compliment.” 2. Body part comments = It’s objectifying. Stop. 3. Anything more than talking (like touching) = I will kick your ass.
So, not too long ago, I was lugging a sack of old clothes to Goodwill and a random guy loitering by the corner store started the commentary:
“You are SOOO beautiful,” he said loudly as I walked past. He followed me a little ways down the sidewalk: “Look aaaaat THAT,” he called out. (Incidentally, I was wearing a sweatshirt, jeans, and tennis shoes. Despite this, I guess I was having a “pretty day.”)
Normally, I’d have blocked it out…. But I’d just finished watching this Key & Peele YouTube video and laughed my ass off over it.
This guy sounded EXACTLY like Jordan Peele using his best sleazy voice. I had to run to my car and burst into laughter before he overheard.
Thank you, Key & Peele, for giving me the gift of a good laugh during such an ordinary moment.
Okay, this post is totally meaningless until you’ve watched the video yourself. So…..go watch![youtube=http://youtu.be/4SUoi_9asBU]
