In the eve of the Christian / secular holiday of Christmas, I post this photo I took of the least Christian country I’ve yet to visit. I took this photo from a Buddhist temple in Bagan, the pilgrimage site for Buddhists around the world.
On the day I snapped this, I was awake for the sunrise due to the fact I was hella jetlagged, and also, the noisy Koreans staying next to me were banging on each other’s doors waking each other up — conveniently waking me up as well.
So many highs and lows of this year; things I’d forgotten and things I’d rediscovered. I lost some relationships and gained others. I was reminded of the disgusting ways that patriarchy exists in sex, and also that love can restore my faith in humanity, even when it means two people have chosen not to be together.
By the way, did you know that when the sun rises, the entire land changes color first? And then, once the earth has transformed from 2-dimensional darkness to 3-dimensional light, that the sun suddenly pops up over the horizon in the blink of an eye?
I had no idea. In case you didn’t know, I share this with you, too.
