I took a leisurely stroll down Cortland Ave. today so I could check out my library book. I was sleep-deprived, so I was moving really slowly. This gave me lots of time to listen to the birds and words around me.
The air had 52% humidity and a scent of love. These were the conversations I heard:
While passing the fruit/veggie stand, Lady on a cell phone:
Cell phone lady: We are really in love with each other, but neither of us have said that aloud to each other yet. We’re going to Portland together for Thanksgiving. I mean, he hasn’t said it to me, but I just know he is.
While sitting on the steps of the library, Two Ladies oblivious to me talk on a bench:
Library Lady 1: I have a crush! My faith in humanity is redeemed!
Lady 2: Oh my god, tell me all about it. Do you have a date set up yet?
Lady 1: No, he’s not gonna ask me out. He’s one of those slow guys. It’s gonna take him forever, I can tell.
Lady 2: Why don’t you make the move?
Lady 1: No way. I’m NOT making the first move. I’m gonna flirt until he asks me out.
Lady 2: That’s so exciting!
Lady 1: I can’t wait! There’s nothing like a crush to make me excited about life again. I’m going to make him kiss me. Just wait.
* Note to Crush of Lady 1: Don’t be a slow guy.
While heading back to the bus stop, guy talking to every woman who is walking by:
Guy: Hi beautiful. I loooove you.
There you have it. 30 minutes, 3 conversations. Everyone is in love!
